Security guard stabbed to death by colleague during confrontation over missing cellphone

Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of Shawn Lovell, a 57-year-old security guard, on Saturday evening outside the Guyana National Museum in Georgetown.

Lovell, of Campbellville Housing Scheme, was employed by Atlas Security Service. Police said he was attacked around 7 p.m. by a colleague, 38-year-old Junior Anthony Lindore, following a dispute over a missing cellphone.

Investigators reported that Lovell had completed his shift at the museum earlier in the evening but later returned and accused Lindore of theft. The confrontation escalated into a fight, during which Lindore allegedly drew two knives from his bag and stabbed Lovell multiple times.

Lovell collapsed in a drain east of the museum and was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from Georgetown Public Hospital. Crime scene officers recovered three knives and a cutlass from the guard hut.

Police said Lindore confessed to the killing during questioning. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
