President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Saturday vowed that no Guyanese will be left behind under his government as the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) wrapped up its campaign ahead of the September 1 General and Regional Elections.

Speaking to a large crowd at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, Ali highlighted inclusivity, economic opportunity, and investment in citizens as hallmarks of his administration.

“Better salaries,” and “working conditions” are on the horizon, he said.

Ali announced that the PPP/C plans to expand the Local Content Act to include the trucking sector, allowing more Guyanese to benefit from employment opportunities.

“Just like we have local content legislation. We are saying that when big builders and contractors come into the country, they must give our truckers the job to do the trucking services,” he said.

Passed in 2021, the Local Content legislation allows Guyanese businesses to supply goods and services to the oil and gas sector across 40 sub-sectors, including transportation, accommodation, legal services, marketing, and public relations. The law mandates that a percentage of these services be provided by citizens.

“Over the last five years, we have been able to invest in our own asset base and the local content law must now provide for every segment of the investment,” Ali said.

He also reaffirmed commitments to farmers, women’s safety, and youth empowerment, urging young people to pursue higher education.

Ali concluded by asking voters to reflect on the PPP/C’s track record and the positive impact of its policies on Guyanese lives ahead of the polls. (DPI)
