Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn on Friday commissioned four major security infrastructure projects in Police Regional Division 4A, part of a broader government plan to modernise law enforcement and improve public safety.
He was joined by Permanent Secretary Andre Ally, Deputy Commissioner of Operations Errol Watts, Assistant Commissioner Michael Kingston, Woman Superintendent Fredella Boyce, Assistant Superintendent Garfield Campbell and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force.
The projects comprise the reconstruction of the North Ruimveldt Police Station, the Special Constabulary Headquarters, the Guyana Police Force Marine Wing in Ruimveldt, and the Ruimveldt Police Station. They represent part of more than G$2 billion being invested in security infrastructure upgrades across Division 4A by the end of 2025. Thirty-eight projects have already been completed, with more under way.
North Ruimveldt Police Station
Completed at a cost of G$123.8 million, the rebuilt North Ruimveldt Police Station is designed to support expanding communities and modern policing.
“These buildings are not just structures; they are platforms for better policing and community trust,” Benn said. “With new housing schemes expanding, we must ensure security keeps pace with development.”
Special Constabulary Headquarters
The Special Constabulary Headquarters was reconstructed for G$119.9 million and now houses modern office and training facilities.
“This marks a proud and transformative moment. This modern building symbolizes progress, resilience, and renewed commitment as we continue to serve 236 locations nationwide,” Boyce said.
Kingston added that decades of deficiencies had been addressed through investment in facilities and personnel.
Marine Wing – Ruimveldt
Built at a cost of G$71.6 million, the new Marine Wing headquarters strengthens maritime policing and riverine operations. It supports seven police vessels patrolling day and night, from the Demerara River mouth to Timehri, manned by 23 officers.
Ruimveldt Police Station
The Ruimveldt Police Station was rebuilt for G$55.6 million with upgraded technology, modern amenities and improved workspaces.
“We are providing you with modern infrastructure and the tools you need to succeed. Now, it is up to you to deliver better policing with professionalism and dedication,” Ally said.
Watts recalled difficult conditions in the past: “Fifteen years ago, we operated in deteriorating buildings with limited resources. Today, we are opening state-of-the-art facilities designed to empower officers and serve the public better.”
National Vision
The government’s security modernisation programme integrates infrastructure upgrades, surveillance systems and digital policing tools.
“We are building a safer, more prosperous Guyana. These investments, coupled with modern technology and stronger community partnerships, ensure that our police force is equipped to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities,” Benn said.
