Jagdeo: Strong leadership, delivery of promises and unity make the PPP/C only credible contender in elections

The ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is the only credible choice to take Guyana forward, General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo told supporters on Saturday.

Highlighting three defining qualities—fulfilling promises, unifying the people, and demonstrating strong leadership—Jagdeo said these have set the PPP/C apart in the elections.

Speaking to thousands at the party’s final rally in Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, he stressed that the PPP/C has worked to bridge divides and deliver across key sectors.

“This is the only party that is seeking to bridge the racial barrier in Guyana. A party that is working day and night to unify our people,” he declared.

He contrasted this with the opposition, accusing the PNC-led coalition of using fear and racist tactics. “That is why the PPP is the only party that is standing strong to bring people together,” he said.

Jagdeo cited the party’s record since 2020, pointing to investments in infrastructure, jobs, health, education, and energy. “Everyone of you would have read the flyers now that we have circulated, and you would have seen the list of promises we made in 2020, and today we have kept every one of them,” he told the cheering crowd.

He argued that the PPP/C has shown strong leadership over the past five years, while an opposition party contesting the elections had not even named its prime ministerial candidate. “They hide from the media. He has not had a single press conference. He can’t represent us locally, much less abroad,” Jagdeo said.

Expressing confidence in a resounding victory at Monday’s polls, he declared: “It’s justified, because look how much we have grown from 2020 to now. People who campaign against us are here in large numbers, walking the streets of Guyana, carrying our message.”
