Ex-ANUG executive says PPP/C best option to govern Guyana

Former A New and United Guyana (ANUG) executive Paul Yearwood has endorsed the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), calling it the most capable political force to steer Guyana’s development and protect democratic stability.

Yearwood, who previously campaigned for the Alliance For Change (AFC) before joining ANUG as a candidate in the 2020 elections, said his decision reflects the PPP’s delivery on promises and its record of respecting electoral outcomes.

“The PPP has proven that if defeated in an election, they will vacate office,” Yearwood said, drawing a contrast to the former APNU+AFC coalition government which resisted giving up power after it lost the 2020 elections.

He recalled that although ANUG failed to win a parliamentary seat in 2020, it played a key role in safeguarding the vote recount. He resigned from the party shortly afterwards.

Contrasting the PPP/C with the opposition, Yearwood said rival groups lacked the expertise and capacity to govern. He credited the PPP/C with stabilising the economy, cutting fuel prices, advancing plans to lower electricity costs, and expanding access to free education and healthcare.

“President Irfaan Ali and the PPP have earned a second term,” he said, adding that “They remain the best option for Guyana’s progress.”
