The security forces are prepared to counter any attempt to disrupt the electoral process, People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said on Sunday.
Addressing supporters at Side Line Dam in Stewartville, Region Three, Jagdeo voiced confidence in his party’s chances at the upcoming polls. “We are on course for a massive and clear-cut win, and it’s only possible because of your unwavering support,” he told the crowd.
Jagdeo warned against attempts to undermine the democratic process, saying the security services are fully equipped to maintain order and protect the integrity of the elections.
He criticised recent remarks by Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton and presidential hopeful Azruddin Mohamed, accusing them of stoking unrest. “Norton said there would be trouble if he loses and the elections are rigged. Mohamed is making wild claims about poll results and suggesting the PPP intends to rig the vote,” Jagdeo said.
He dismissed Mohamed’s comments as “delusional,” and said they echoed divisive rhetoric reminiscent of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC).
“The security forces are fully prepared to handle anyone seeking to disrupt the peace during the upcoming elections,” Jagdeo said.
