GPF top brass leads as officers cast early votes at Eve Leary

Early voting continued smoothly across the country on Friday as ranks of the Guyana Police Force began casting their ballots ahead of the upcoming General and Regional Elections, slated for September 1.

At the Police Officers’ Mess Annex in Eve Leary, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken was the first to vote, officially kicking off the day’s proceedings.

He was soon followed by other senior officers, as law enforcement ranks exercised their democratic right at the polls.

The early voting process for members of the Disciplined Services, which includes the Police Force, is a longstanding tradition in Guyana. It ensures that officers are free to perform their national duties on election day while still having the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has expressed confidence in the day’s arrangements, having rolled out a comprehensive plan to accommodate more than 10,000 ranks from the Disciplined Services across the country.

With ballots already dispatched to key regions and the remaining set for air transport to hinterland areas, authorities anticipate a smooth and incident-free voting day.
