Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan has objected to a photograph of him shaking hands with We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Presidential Candidate Azruddin Mohamed being used by Mohamed for political gain on social media.

In a statement, the Chief of Defence said the handshake was extended as an act of courtesy.

“Let it be clear, neither I nor the Guyana Defence Force as an institution supports or endorses any political party or candidate. The Force stands firm, neutral, patriotic, and loyal to the constitution and the people of Guyana. This misuse is not only misleading, it is dishonourable,” he said.

He stressed that using the GDF’s professionalism for political purposes undermines the values of honesty and respect that Guyana’s democracy deserves.

The Chief of Defence also commended the men and women of the Joint Services for their steadfast work in maintaining peace and security during the election season.
