Guyana start strong in CFU Under-14 Girls Challenge Series

Guyana’s women’s soccer team continued their strong momentum at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-14 Girls Challenge Series with a solid 2-0 victory over the Turks and Caicos Islands on Sunday.
The win marked their second in as many matches. Leandra Henrito opened the scoring in the 24th minute, striking a beautifully placed shot that left the Turks and Caicos goalkeeper with no chance.
Just nine minutes later, Lehaina Bengamin doubled the lead with a powerful effort in the 33rd minute, solidifying Guyana’s control of the match and ensuring the comfortable win in the first half.
Meanwhile, a day prior, the Guyanese girls opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Antigua and Barbuda. Bengamin netted the opener just 10 minutes into the match before Thais Charles added to the lead with a clinical finish in the 29th minute, giving Guyana a commanding 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
Antigua and Barbuda managed to pull one goal back, but the Junior Lady Jags’ defence held firm to close out the 2-1 win.
The victories have now put Guyana in a strong position to advance to the Tier II semifinals after group play is completed in the coming days. Guyana still have the Cayman Islands and Anguilla to contend with in their Group C competition.
