THAG affirms no airline leaving Guyana

The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has refuted two widely circulated YouTube videos making sensational claims about the state of Guyana’s tourism and aviation industries.

The videos — titled “Guyana Airports BANNED: 15 Things You CAN’T Do in 2025 (Don’t Get Caught!)” and “6 Airlines Are Pulling Out of Guyana as Tourism Crashes and Airports Empty” — allege that the country’s airports face bans, airlines are abandoning routes, and tourism is in decline.

THAG dismissed the content as “fabrications” that bear no resemblance to reality.

According to THAG, the sector has been on a steady growth trajectory since the reopening of borders after the COVID-19 pandemic, with arrival figures climbing by double digits year on year.

The country has retained its key airline partners while attracting new carriers and routes, driven by its rising profile as a South American and Caribbean destination.

Guyana’s eco-tourism offerings, expanding hospitality sector and sustainable development efforts continue to draw both leisure and business travellers, the association said.

THAG urged the public and international visitors to disregard “sensationalised and unfounded” online content and instead seek accurate updates from official sources such as the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), the Eugene F. Correia International Airport and reputable travel advisories.
