Residents along the Essequibo Coast can expect safer and cleaner communities, with improved infrastructure and new opportunities, as General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, unveiled a series of major plans for Region Two.

During a whistle-stop outreach on Wednesday, Dr. Jagdeo visited Queenstown, Zorg-en-Vlygt, Affiance, Reliance, Westbury, Richmond, Hampton Court, Walton Hall, Jibb, Better Success, Somerset, Berks, and Charity—continuing a tour that earlier included Good Hope, Aurora, Hibernia, Pomona, Adventure, Onderneeming, Maria’s Lodge, Golden Fleece, and Cullen.

Dr. Jagdeo pledged significant investments aimed at transforming community life. These include more street lights and security cameras to boost safety, construction of concrete drains and upgraded drainage systems, recreational spaces and playgrounds for children, and better garbage collection and solid waste management.

“Our goal is to create neighbourhoods where families feel safe and proud to live,” Dr. Jagdeo said.

Housing will also remain a priority, with faster processing of applications, assistance for low-income home construction, and upgrades to existing housing schemes.

Job creation remains high on the government’s agenda. Dr. Jagdeo announced plans to improve benefits for part-time workers, trench cleaners, and pathway workers, while encouraging new business ventures through the proposed development bank.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting families through increased “Because We Care” cash grants, higher pensions, and wider public assistance. There will also be transportation grants for schoolchildren.

The PPP/C General Secretary also urged residents not to be misled by opposition parties, which he said “have no plan and no vision to run the country.” He singled out APNU, AFC, and the WIIN party, cautioning Essequibians to be very mindful of them.
