APNU wants to give Guyanese 30 cents on every dollar country earns, says Mahipaul

As A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) continues its aggressive campaign into the 2025 elections, the party says it wants to return significant sums to the public, increasing their disposable income.

This is according to vice-presidential candidate Ganesh Mahipaul, who explained his party’s financial plans for citizens on the Canada-based The Reset Talk Show today. He said one of his party’s financial strategies is to ensure effective management of public funds so that a sum from every dollar the country generates is returned to citizens.

“We believe that on every dollar, we will be able to have about 30 cents on every dollar placed back into the hands of the people.”

He claimed that this people-centered promise of the party seeks to empower citizens and will be a key focus of an APNU government. He also insisted that with the addition of oil wealth, Guyana is far too wealthy for resources not to be distributed equitably and for citizens not to enjoy decent livelihoods.

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has repeatedly said on the current election campaign that the national budget comprises only 37 per cent of oil funds and that the money is invested in improving healthcare, education and training, and infrastructural development—geared at empowering and improving the lives of citizens both in the immediate and long term. While not against financial support in the form of grants to citizens, he has also warned against wild and unsustainable handouts over tangible investments that will secure the future of the country.

However, Mahipaul believes that Guyana has a lot of money and that disposable income should increase, as it will benefit many Guyanese.

He also said that Guyana’s economy must continue to grow, and this growth will only take place with the development of policies in business and the industrialisation of the nation, providing a stable foundation that offers returns to the nation’s greatest asset—its people.
