Region Five welcomed its first youth-friendly centre and sewing hub in Bush Lot Village on Monday.
This marks a milestone achievement for the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

The facility, an initiative of the Ministry’s Family Enhancement Services Section (FESS), will provide a safe space and supportive environment where young people can unwind, express themselves creatively, and access mentorship and counselling.

A section of the facility features a sewing hub, which is open to both males and females in the community, offering them the opportunity to develop valuable sewing skills.
This training provides a pathway to self-reliance and economic empowerment, as sewing remains a skill that is consistently in demand.

Additionally, the ministry launched the Golden Generation Hub – a dedicated space for elderly persons to socialise.
This area will also host wellness activities and technology classes to help older citizens remain connected and confident in today’s digital era.

Similar centres were opened over the past year in Westminster Village, Region Three, and Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
These centres aim to combat isolation and preserve the physical and mental well-being of senior citizens.

The opening of this centre forms part of the government’s wider mandate to create inclusive spaces for the elderly, while also empowering youth to thrive by nurturing their skills and talents. (DPI)
