Addressing thousands at a rally in Wismar, Linden, Dr. Jagdeo said the works form part of the government’s commitment to expanding development in local communities.

“We promised to spend more money in your communities, and in the last two years alone, you had $18 billion spent on building roads,” he said.

He noted that the employment generated by these infrastructure projects is expected to grow as the administration plans a second phase of development post-2025, which includes new drainage works.

“When we start building the concrete drains here in Linden and across the country, many more will get contracts,” he told the crowd.

Jagdeo also told the gathering that US$30 million will be allocated to upgrade the Linden Regional Hospital into a state-of-the-art facility. In addition, young people will be supported to start their own businesses through a proposed development bank.

“Youths can look forward to better-paying jobs, education and training opportunities, and improved basic services like healthcare,” he said.

Jagdeo added: “We are a party of substance. A party that is offering a future for every Guyanese.”
