Police in Berbice are investigating the alleged murder of 38-year-old Gavin Daniels, known as “Talk to Me,” a Guyanese Amerindian labourer of Moleson Creek, who was found motionless with multiple wounds about his body on Monday night.

The incident occurred around 8:00 pm at Jackson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.

Daniels was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. His body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect, 23-year-old fisherman Mohamed Fazar Ally, called “Rana,” also of Jackson Creek, is in police custody and assisting with investigations.

Nafiza Hussein, a nearby resident, shared with Ignite News that she was home in bed when the confrontation unfolded at her neighbour’s house.

“I didn’t come out—I was in shock. I called his mother and told her to go to the station and try get a patrol van.”

According to Hussein, the two men were seen fighting from the end of a nearby house and eventually ended up further down the road, where the altercation escalated.

“By the time we put on our clothes and open the door… we see them two scrambling. And then one just drop and lay motionless,” she said. “I call the police. It took over an hour for the jeep to reach.”

Preliminary information suggests that the two men had an earlier dispute during Father’s Day celebrations, which may have contributed to the fatal encounter.

Residents allege that Daniels, upon learning the suspect had returned from sea, took a bicycle, went to Ally’s residence, and reportedly kicked down his door before the physical confrontation began.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the type of weapon or weapons used in the altercation.
