The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) will be hosting a lottery of medium scale mining blocks in the Mazaruni and Cuyuni mining districts on July 19 at the Bartica Mines Station.
The event is open to residents of Region Seven. A notice from the commission stated that participants will need to obtain and complete a registration form, which can be collected from GGMC’s High and Prince’s Street office or the Mines Station in Bartica, and pay a non-refundable fee of $10,000.
Participants must verify that they are bona fide residents of the region using a letter from the toshao of their village, the Neighbourhood Democratic Council, the Regional Office, or the Mayor of Region Seven.
To enter the lottery for the special mining permits, applicants must not be the holder of more than one medium scale tenure and must not hold any large-scale licences, as this will result in disqualification.
It was noted that allottees will be given the opportunity to apply for their block at the event immediately following the allotment process. In this one-stop process, allottees will need to have on hand approximately $203,920 to cover a rental fee of US$1 per acre and an environmental bond. They must also provide their TIN certificate, identification card, and recent proof of address.
Allottees who do not take advantage of the one-stop shop will have until August 29 to file their application with the Land Management Division at GGMC’s head office. The award will be null and void if this deadline is missed.
The commission noted that at least 10 bonus potential allottees will be drawn and contacted by the GGMC should any allocations become available. The deadline for all applications is July 18.
