Former Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall, has endorsed President Dr Irfaan Ali for a second term, citing the incumbent’s “vision, dedication, and pragmatic approach to governance” as essential for navigating Guyana’s ongoing transformation.
In a statement released ahead of his 45th birthday on July 20, Marshall said the occasion had prompted deep reflection on both his personal journey and the country’s rapid development.
“Over the years, I’ve learned that true growth requires embracing change,” Marshall said. “Life presents us with shifting circumstances, evolving challenges, and new opportunities. These constant transitions are not obstacles but the very essence of progress.”
He credited President Ali with fostering national unity, promoting religious tolerance, and leading with what he described as “dynamic energy” and “a deep love for our country.”
Marshall noted that he had met Ali earlier this year for an extended discussion and was struck by the president’s commitment to infrastructure development and inclusion.
“Our capacity to navigate the rapid changes ahead will determine whether we fulfill our destiny as a global success story,” Marshall said. “President Ali has consistently demonstrated the vision and dedication required to guide Guyana through this crucial period in our history.”
Guyana is due to hold general and regional elections on September 1. Ali, who has been in office since 2020, is seeking re-election under the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
