Action heats up in ExxonMobil’s school football tournament

A match in action

In an action-packed third round of the ExxonMobil Boys’ and Girls’ U-14 Football Tournament over the weekend, Chase Academic Foundation girls’ football team set the tone with a commanding 3-0 victory over Abram Zuil Secondary at the Ministry of Education Ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
A goal from Leandra Henrito and a brace from Thea Rodrigues secured the win for Chase Academic Foundation. Bartica Secondary also showcased their dominance, overwhelming Dolphin Secondary with an 8-0 win, highlighted by Kelys Williams’ hat-trick and a pair of goals from Virlerkys Simon.
Marian Academy continued the trend of impressive performances, defeating St Joseph High 7-0, led by Skylar Denobrega’s three-goal effort, complemented by doubles from Haley Haberkorn and Kaleigh Todd. Former ExxonMobil U-14 champions Waramuri Secondary made a statement with a 10-0 rout of Good Hope Secondary, powered by a pair of goals from Shanesa Thomas, a hat-trick from Zabita Harris, and a double from Breanna Henry.
In the boys’ matches, St John’s College edged out Charity Secondary 5-4, with Jasiah Nedd scoring three goals. Cotton Field Secondary secured a 3-0 win against New Amsterdam Secondary, led by Daron Romeo’s two goals. St Joseph High dominated Hope Secondary with a 6-1 victory, highlighted by an impressive performance from Joel Stephen, who netted three goals within just minutes. Other notable matches included Bush Lot Secondary’s narrow 1-0 loss to West Demerara Secondary, and West Ruimveldt Secondary’s 2-1 win over Marian Academy. Defending champions Chase Academic Foundation delivered a stunning 8-1 victory over Brickdam Secondary as well.
The action continues throughout the week at the Ministry of Education ground.
