
St. Rose’s High claims U-14 crown in closely contested final
“Kwakwani Secondary once again showcased their basketball dominance, capturing three of four championship titles at the 2025 Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) KFC National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF), held on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.
Their only loss came in the U-14 category, where they were edged out by St. Rose’s High in a thrilling 38–35 finish. St. Rose’s standout Cayden Marks delivered 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kwakwani’s Crandon Beckles posted a game-high 16 points.
In the U-16 final, Kwakwani rebounded to defeat President’s College 39–33, led by Marlon Mendonca with 10 points. The Kwakwani girls’ team also outlasted President’s College in a tight 26–22 matchup, with Sherse Leacock leading the scoring with 10 points.
Kwakwani’s most dominant perfomance came in the U-18 boys’ final, where they defeated the Government Technical Institute (GTI) 64–45. Tyreek Sampson was the game’s top scorer with 22 points.
Kwakwani’s Dallas Thomas was named Best Coach of the tournament, while Hururu Secondary received both the Sportsmanship Award and the Emerging Team Award.
The tournament was supported by sponsors including KFC Guyana, Edward B. Beharry & Co. Ltd., G-Boats Guyana, Banks DIH, and the National Sports Commission.
