
A 78-year-old motorcyclist, Winston Hibbert, lost his life on Sunday afternoon following a crash along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The fatal incident occurred at around 15:30 hrs at Long Creek and involved motorcycle CG 8545, black and red in colour, owned by Alwin Hibbert and ridden at the time by the now-deceased Winston Hibbert, both of Lot 181 Long Creek Village.
Police reported that the motorcycle was proceeding north along the western driving lane at a fast rate when the rider reportedly lost control and collided with a concrete kerb on the western side of the roadway. He was not wearing a safety helmet at the time.
As a result of the impact, Hibbert sustained serious injuries to his head and body. He was picked up in a semi-conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
According to residents, Hibbert had been consuming alcohol at a funeral in the community prior to the incident.
The body is presently at the Linden Hospital Complex mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination, as police investigations continue.
