As the 2025 Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships approach, Guyana’s national squash team is finalising preparations to represent the nation on one of the region’s most competitive stages. The tournament is set to begin on 29th June in the Cayman Islands and will feature top teams from across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago, the host nation Cayman Islands, and long-time rival Barbados.

Guyana enters this year’s tournament with renewed determination, having placed second in 2024 behind champions Barbados, which is a familiar and fierce rival in regional squash. With the rivalry intensifying over recent years, the team is focused on reclaiming the top spot and continuing Guyana’s proud legacy in the sport.

At a recent send-off event hosted by the Guyana Squash Association, the team received a strong show of support. Speaking on behalf of the National Sports Commission, Christine Campbell delivered an inspiring address, commending the athletes on their selection and encouraging them to embrace the privilege and responsibility of national representation.

“You are not just competing, you are representing all of us,” Campbell said. “This is a significant achievement, and you should be proud of the hard work and discipline that brought you here.”

She went on to highlight the tireless efforts of the Guyana Squash Association, under the leadership of President David Fernandes, whose planning and dedication have helped shape a disciplined, confident squad.

A special mention was made of long-time national coach Carl Ince. Though officially retired, Coach Ince will accompany the team to the Cayman Islands, continuing to lend his invaluable experience and support during the championship campaign. His presence, noted by the Chairperson of the Squash Association, was warmly received as a testament to his enduring commitment to Guyanese squash.

Team captain Louis Da Silva, speaking on behalf of the athletes, expressed gratitude for the collective support that has brought them to this stage.

“This tournament in the Cayman Islands isn’t just about matches—it’s our opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Guyanese squash and the potential seeded by your support,” Da Silva said. He assured that the team would compete with courage, unity, and sportsmanship, fully aware that they carry the hopes of a nation on their shoulders.

With a blend of seasoned players and rising talent, Team Guyana is poised to challenge for the CASA title, aiming to not only surpass last year’s performance but to re-establish themselves as the top squash nation in the region.
