Three suspects arrested in double murder

Female special constable reportedly stabs man to death

Three suspects are in police custody as investigations continue into the alleged double murder of two residents of Barama River, Baramita, North West District. The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Mark Thomas, a male Guyanese Amerindian, and Wendy James, a female Guyanese.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 16, 2025, at New Star Backdam, Region One, police say in a release.

The suspects—Kizzian Baird, a female of mixed ancestry; Junior Richmond, known as “Po-Pal”; and Ewart Wilson, both males of African descent—allegedly fled the scene following the crime. Between June 16 and 19, police ranks from Regional Division #1 launched an intensive search operation and successfully apprehended the trio in various hiding spots within the Backdam area.

Police have since conducted video and audio interviews with the suspects, and multiple witness statements have been obtained, confirming their alleged involvement in the killings.

The bodies of the victims have been recovered, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Port Kaituma Hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.
