Critchlow Labour College reopens for classes on July 1

The Critchlow Labour College (CLC) is gearing up to recommence physical classes on July 1, following a fire that left a significant section of the building’s west wing completely destroyed. A demolition and clearing exercise is currently ongoing at the facility.
CLC Principal Ivor English told Ignite News that the removal work is being carried out to ensure safety, as students are expected to return for in-person classes.
“Critchlow is clearing the facility, with a means to start running the courses on July 1,” he said, noting that the college will be launching its high school diploma programme along with other courses and is eager to welcome students back on the premises.
English highlighted that since the fire, classes have been conducted online, but with efforts underway to rehabilitate the college, ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors remains a top priority.
Weak and potentially hazardous sections of the damaged structure have been pulled down, while the heaping and clearing of debris are ongoing.
Approximately 80 per cent of the main auditorium and the administrative building were destroyed by the fire, affecting over 200 students.
English told Ignite News that the Government of Guyana has offered support for the rehabilitation of the historic institution, and he expressed gratitude for the assistance being provided.
