The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is encouraging businesses to make use of its training and technical support services aimed at business development.

Speaking on the MinTIC on the Move programme, GNBS Business Development Officer Shivraj Ramdat said the agency offers training and business development assistance through a technical support programme.

“Technical assistance firstly is a service which we provide where we help companies to get certification ready… companies can choose to be certification ready to more than one standard at the same time. We support companies through our experts working with them, helping them to build and implement the requirements of standards as well as the training which we provide that helps us to boost their competence on the standard,” he said.

According to Ramdat, the training helps companies build capacity in management system standards. The GNBS also offers tailored training sessions to meet specific company needs.

“It’s pretty simple, just reach out to us and indicate that it’s an interest that you would like us to customise a training that’s tailored for you. We will develop that training tailoring it to your business, and we’re even open to the point that if we don’t have the capacity at the moment, we will develop that capacity and provide that training to you after… we are the national standards body, it is our role to promote standardisation,” he said.

The training improves companies’ competence in standards, which has become increasingly important in light of Guyana’s expanding oil and gas sector.
