Local private sector bodies in Guyana have announced their intention to field observer missions for the upcoming general elections scheduled for 1 September 2025 as they mount calls for free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The Private Sector Commission (PSC) stated that it will deploy an Independent Electoral Observer Mission, accredited by the Guyana Elections Commission. This mission will include qualified and impartial individuals from across the private sector.
It will monitor the electoral process before, during, and after polling day, ensuring adherence to national laws and international standards for democratic elections. The PSC reiterated its non-partisan stance and commitment to peace, civic responsibility, and respect throughout the electoral period.
In a separate statement, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) urged all political parties to respect the Elections Code of Conduct and uphold the rule of law and democratic values.
The GCCI called for GECOM and its secretariat to appoint credible and impartial officials and to ensure the timely release of election results. The chamber is currently seeking accreditation as an official observer body.
It stressed that a democratic and transparent electoral process is vital to national stability and development and warned against inciteful political behaviour.
Additionally, Region Three Private Sector Inc called on all stakeholders—including political leaders, civil society, and citizens—to participate in the electoral process with unity, dignity, and responsibility.
It emphasised that elections are a reaffirmation of democratic principles and national progress, noting that a peaceful and credible election will help maintain the country’s developmental momentum.
