Young Cuban woman hacked to death, stepfather in custody

A 21-year-old Cuban national, Davely Morales, was brutally murdered this morning at her residence at Lot 56 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown. Her stepfather, 40-year-old Wispriey Alfonso, also a Cuban national, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The incident occurred around 07:00 hrs in the apartment Morales shared with her mother, 38-year-old Milaysi Rodrigues, her nine-year-old sister, and the suspect. The family had arrived in Guyana about a month ago and had been renting an apartment at the location.

According to reports, another tenant in the building heard screams coming from Apartment One and rushed to investigate. There, he found the suspect standing over Rodrigues in the living room, allegedly attacking her with a chopper. Morales, who had already sustained several chop wounds, attempted to flee but collapsed in the walkway just outside the apartment.

Emergency Medical Technicians responded, and a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital pronounced Morales dead at the scene. She sustained multiple chop wounds to her hands, the back of her head, and jaw. Her body was later transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Rodrigues was rushed to the hospital with multiple severe chop wounds and remains in serious condition.

Shortly after the attack, Alfonso reportedly walked into the Kitty Police Station carrying the blood-stained chopper and surrendered to law enforcement.

Police investigations into the tragic killing are ongoing.
