Gerald Gouveia Jr., Director of Roraima Airways Limited, has been elected Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) of Guyana following the organisation’s 33rd Annual General Meeting on Tuesday.

The announcement was met with congratulations from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), which also celebrated the historic election of its President, Mrs Kathy Smith, as Vice Chairwoman of the PSC. Smith’s appointment marks the first time a woman has held the vice-chair position in the Commission’s history.

Other newly elected executives include Dr Clinton Urling, Managing Director of German’s Restaurant, who will serve as Secretary, and Mr Imran Saccoor, President of the Region Five Chamber of Industry and Commerce, who was named Treasurer.

In a statement, the GCCI expressed its commitment to collaborating with the new PSC leadership to strengthen Guyana’s business environment and support national economic growth.

The PSC, established in 1992, is a key umbrella body representing the country’s business community. It unites major private sector organisations to advocate for policies that promote economic growth, investment, and private enterprise. The PSC engages with government stakeholders on regulatory and economic issues, supports trade and investment, and encourages ethical business practices.

Its diverse membership includes chambers of commerce, financial institutions, and industry associations. As a leading voice in national development, the PSC plays a strategic role in shaping policy and fostering collaboration to strengthen Guyana’s private sector and overall economic landscape.
