The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that several persons of interest have been contacted in connection with recent explosions at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost and the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Substation located along Mandela Avenue.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the police stated that the individuals are cooperating with investigators as the probe gathers momentum.

The first incident occurred at approximately 01:00 hrs on Saturday, 17 May, at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost, situated at Vlissengen Square and East Front Road. Reports indicate that a loud explosion, believed to have originated from the southern side of the outpost, rocked the compound.

A police rank on duty at the time reported hearing two distinct blasts, followed by debris impacting nearby rooftops.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered significant damage to the southern wall of the concrete structure. The Crime Scene Unit later confirmed that the metal gate on the southern perimeter was completely destroyed, and other parts of the building sustained structural damage.

Around the same time, suspicious damage was also reported at the GPL Substation on Mandela Avenue. Investigators are examining the possibility of a coordinated attack linking both incidents.

Eyewitnesses in the vicinity have provided valuable information, and forensic teams are currently analysing all available evidence. The persons of interest contacted remain central to understanding the full scope of the events.

The Guyana Police Force has reassured the public that it is taking these matters seriously and that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety and bring those responsible to justice.

The investigation remains ongoing.
