The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has refuted claims made by attorney-at-law Dexter Todd, who alleged in a recent press release that the father of the late Adrianna Younge was never contacted by police to provide a statement.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the GPF described Todd’s assertion as “wholly and deliberately untrue,” stating that multiple attempts had been made to contact and accommodate Subrian Younge, Adrianna’s father, for an official statement.
According to police records, Mr. Younge was first approached in person on April 24 at the Double Day Hotel by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Regional Division Number Three. He was invited to give a statement that same day but did not do so.
Subsequent efforts were made on May 1, when police reportedly contacted Attorney Daren Wade, asking for both of Adrianna’s parents to visit the station. However, they requested to do so after the funeral.
Further outreach took place on May 8 and 9, when police engaged Attorney Dexter Todd directly regarding statements from the Younge family. While other family members complied, Mr. Younge was again absent. The police expressed surprise, noting that Todd had acknowledged the family’s duty to cooperate with investigators during these discussions.
Another call was made on May 16, during which Todd informed police that he would follow up but did not provide a specific date or time for Mr. Younge’s availability.
The police force has also signaled that it will, in due course, respond point-by-point to what it described as “blatant misrepresentations” by Todd concerning a meeting between himself, family members, and retired RCMP Major Crimes Investigator Leonard McCoshen.
The GPF further pointed out that Todd had expressed strong confidence in McCoshen’s investigative abilities, reportedly telling the investigator, “Your input and recommendation can assist greatly in this matter.”
The force concluded by reaffirming its commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adrianna Younge’s death.
