The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced that training is currently underway for temporary election staff ahead of the upcoming General and Regional Elections in Guyana.
In a press release issued earlier today, GECOM disclosed that revised training manuals are now accessible on its website.
These manuals comply with new statutory requirements introduced in December 2022 and are titled “Official Manual for Returning Officers, Supernumerary Returning Officers, and Other Election Officials” and “Official Manual for Presiding Officers and Other Polling Day Officials.”
According to the commission, these manuals were prepared by its secretariat in line with relevant legal provisions and were reviewed by parliamentary political parties, who were invited to provide feedback.
The manuals have been used in the training of management staff for the upcoming elections and were provided via email to all individuals who applied for appointment as temporary management staff.
Regarding the training of polling day staff—filling roles such as presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, poll clerks, and ballot clerks—GECOM urges applicants to access and study the official manual for presiding officers and other polling day officials, available at https://www.gecom.org.gy/public/home/resource_hub
The commission also encourages all stakeholders to access these manuals to familiarise themselves with the legal and procedural requirements for the conduct of General and Regional Elections.
