Religious leaders from Guyana and across the diaspora are uniting in prayers through “Hope Is Rising,” an event scheduled for the National Cultural Centre (NCC) at 17:00 hours tomorrow, under the theme “A Call to Prayer and Worship.”
The event will highlight the role of faith in community building, the impact of prayer on national healing, and will feature speakers, performances, and activities aimed at positively transforming Guyana.
Organised by Pastor Joseph Persaud and the Liberty Bible Fellowship Church, the event aims to emphasise the significance of community engagement and collective prayer for Guyana’s healing.
Speaking at a press conference, Pastor Persaud and other religious leaders shared insights on the event’s theme, stressing the importance of unity, harmony, and spiritual awakening.
“Hope Is Rising goes to nations to let them know that God is not only able to shift the church, but He’s able to shift the city, community, regions, provinces, and countries… People have been asking, after the Adrianna Younge death, how it’s being planned at such a time like this when the nation needs prayers. We had no idea that all of this would be transpiring in the nation when Hope Is Rising started making concrete plans for May 9. So now we understand the circumstances. Guyana is in a moment of grief and pain, and we send our condolences to the Younge family,” Pastor Persaud noted.
Pastor Scott Camp also expressed his happiness to join in prayer for the nation.
“We are all global Christians, and that means our desire is to catalyse the entire body of Christ to come together in prayer, to call on the name of the Lord, and to ask for His blessings on this nation… God Bless Guyana,” he stated.
Additionally, Pastor Jesse Reimer emphasised that the event will showcase unity, urging everyone to take a moment to offer a word of prayer for Guyana.
“We’re very honoured to be a part of what God is doing… There are so many opportunities in our world today to be divided, to be separated. This is an opportunity for us to put that aside and find a way to come together,” he said.
Tomorrow’s event will begin with a prayer session, where religious leaders encourage the nation to start praying from midnight. It will culminate at the NCC with performances by top gospel artists, including Samuel Medas, Sherwin Gardener, and Renwick Duesbury, among others.
