Two residents of Eldorado Village, West Coast Berbice, have been charged and remanded to prison for terrorism in connection with an incident that occurred on April 27, 2025, in Belladrum Village.

Loraine Small, a 53-year-old clothes vendor, and Junior Williams, a 27-year-old labourer of Lot 26 Eldorado Village, were brought before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir on Friday at the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge alleges that the duo, along with others, placed wood and other objects on the roadway in Belladrum and set them on fire with the intent to strike terror in the community. The act is said to have been likely to cause damage or destruction to property.

They were charged under Section 309 A (1)(b)(ii) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01 of the laws of Guyana, which addresses terrorism-related offences. Following their court appearance, both accused were remanded to prison.

The matter remains under investigation, and further court proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
