American Airlines flights AA 2547 (JFK) and AA 1513 (MIA) have been diverted to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, due to unrest in Guyana.

The US Embassy in Georgetown has also cancelled visa and American Citizen Services appointments.

“Due to ongoing protests in Georgetown and surrounding areas, visa and American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments will be cancelled on Tuesday, 29 April, and Wednesday, 30 April 2025. Affected applicants will be rescheduled and will receive an email notification with their new appointment date,” the embassy said in a release.

The release noted that American citizens requiring emergency assistance may call 225-4126.

“Please monitor our website at https://gy.usembassy.gov/ and social media pages for additional updates. Stay safe,” the release from the US Embassy in Guyana stated.

Tensions escalated on Monday following the announcement of the post-mortem results, which confirmed that Adrianna Younger, 11, died by drowning.

The child had been reported as abducted last Wednesday while on a family outing at the Double Day Hotel, East Bank Essequibo.

She was later discovered in a pool at the same hotel the following day. Earlier searches of that very pool had turned up empty-handed.
