Construction on the first 110 homes in Silica City is progressing quickly, and infrastructure development is also moving forward, the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) said today, providing an update on the country’s first smart city.

The units are at various stages of completion, the CHPA said.

“The project is being designed with key digital technologies, climate-resilient infrastructure, and green recreational spaces. It also aims to address the impacts of climate change and rising sea levels, as well as the challenges related to the growth of non-coastal urban areas.”

President Irfaan Ali has stated that the much-anticipated Silica City is expected to be fully developed by 2030, as the master plan has been completed.

“We will have this Silica City realised by 2030. Nothing will stop us,” the Head of State insisted during the International Building Exposition last year.

He said, “We are going to continue engaging and working with the best planners. Young people, experienced people, and the global community is where our learning must come from. We must learn from the mistakes that other cities would have made in the building phase…so that we could create a product that reflects the soul of our country.”

Silica City is located on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, where work on the first 110 Young Professional homes is ongoing.
