Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo today announced that the government will establish medical and technical laboratories in all of the country’s 10 administrative regions in the next term.

This initiative is aimed at easing the burden on students who currently need to travel to Georgetown to access these services at the University of Guyana (UG).

According to Dr Jagdeo, during a recent visit to Essequibo, a young man approached him and expressed concerns about the cost of housing in Georgetown, which he incurs solely because he needs to complete practical work in the labs.

The Vice President said the government will ensure that students pursuing technical and science subjects no longer face such challenges.

“So people can do their labs so even if they have an online scholarship they don’t have to travel because of the university in Georgetown which pushes up the cost so in every region they can be able to do their practicals in the technical subjects so that they don’t have to be physically present here in the City,” he assured.
