Hundreds of Hindus congregated on Sunday at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Community Centre Ground to participate in the first National Hanuman Jayanti celebration, hosted by the Guyana Pandits Mission (GPM).
The event, held under the theme “There is no rest until Ram’s work is done”, featured activities such as havan, kirtan, the chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa, prayer recitations, prasad offerings, and more.
This celebration, the first Hindu religious festival of its kind to be organised and held on such a grand scale locally, aimed to unite the Hindu community in the interest of promoting Dharma.
The event received a tremendous public response, including the participation of dozens of pandits from across the country who joined in the celebrations.
Members of the GPM delivered powerful messages on unity, the mission’s vision, and the values embodied by Hanuman and Shree Ram.
The programme also included beautiful bhajan renditions, dance performances, and chants presented by representatives from various mandirs and organisations.
Hanuman Jayanti, which was celebrated on Saturday, 12th April, commemorates the birth of Sri Hanumanji, an avatar of Bhagwan Shiva. Hanuman symbolises strength, courage, and resilience. He is revered as the ideal bhakt (devotee) for his unwavering devotion to Bhagwan Shree Ram, serving as a true example of dedication.
The event organisers, GPM, represent a growing association of pandits in Guyana, currently with over 60 members.
The mission is open to all pandits in Guyana. Its primary objective is to promote the rich Hindu culture and way of life through a united effort.
