A 31-year-old motorcyclist, Hamlette Henrico of Nappi Village, tragically lost his life on Thursday evening following a collision along the Nappi Trail Road in Central Rupununi, Region Nine.

The fatal incident occurred at around 18:15 hrs and involved two motorcycles—one driven by Henrico, and the other, motorcycle CG 6196, owned and ridden by 45-year-old Deon Mc Donald, also of Nappi Village. Mc Donald had a pillion rider at the time, identified as 42-year-old Evangelist Gabriel.

According to police reports, initial investigations revealed that Henrico was travelling south along the left side of the trail at a reportedly high speed. Mc Donald, meanwhile, was proceeding west on the same trail and was approaching an intersection. It is alleged that Mc Donald failed to stop at the junction and made a right turn into the path of Henrico’s oncoming motorcycle.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, Henrico took evasive action, but it was unsuccessful. The two motorcycles collided, throwing all three men onto the roadway and causing them to sustain injuries.

A doctor who was nearby rendered immediate assistance but pronounced Henrico dead at the scene. Mc Donald and his pillion rider were assisted by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Nappi Health Centre. They were later transferred to the Lethem Regional Hospital by ambulance, where they were admitted for further treatreatment.

Henrico’s body was transported to the Lethem Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
