
A 26-year-old man who was reportedly wanted for questioning in relation to an alleged sexual offence involving a minor was fatally shot by police during an attempted arrest at One Mile, Wismar, on Monday afternoon.
According to police, around 17:30 hrs on Monday, a sergeant attached to the Wismar Police Station received information that Ronaldo Peters was seen at a bar known as Shabba Shop in the One Mile area.
The sergeant, accompanied by other uniformed ranks and armed with service weapons, proceeded to the location. Upon arrival, Peters was reportedly observed at the establishment. Police allege that he attempted to flee and tried to scale a nearby fence.
During an attempt to apprehend him, the police sergeant reportedly pulled Peters from the fence, and in the process, his service pistol allegedly discharged, hitting Peters.
Peters was immediately escorted to the Mackenzie Public Hospital. However, he succumbed while receiving treatment.
Ronaldo Peters body was examined, and one circular wound was seen on his right side lower abdomen.
The body was escorted to the Pensioners Mortuary awaiting PME.
Investigations are ongoing. The sergeant is under close arrest. The
Office of Professional Responsibility has commenced investigation into the matter, police reported.
