
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday welcomed 65 new recruits who successfully graduated from the Guyana Police Force Academy’s Initial Training Programme.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Police Officers’ Training Centre, saw the newly inducted policemen and policewomen receiving certificates of completion and special awards in recognition of their outstanding achievements, a release from the force said
The rigorous training programme, coordinated by Sergeant Orlan Alleyne, spanned three respective courses.
Throughout the programme, recruits underwent intensive training designed to build their physical endurance, mental resilience, and ethical fortitude.
The curriculum also featured newly introduced training modules aimed at enhancing tactical skills, modern policing strategies, and updated legal frameworks—reflecting the evolving landscape of law enforcement.
Delivering the feature address, Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Ravindradat Budhram congratulated the graduates on their achievements and shared his personal journey of joining the Police Force, which stemmed from a deep passion for service.
“What you work for is what you care for,” Budhram stated, as he urged the new ranks to remain disciplined, committed, and humble in their careers.
He emphasised that the nine months of training they received would serve them well throughout their professional journey.
He also reminded them that the Guyana Police Force is a disciplined and professional organisation and encouraged them to take advantage of educational opportunities to further develop themselves academically and advance their careers.
The ceremony also highlighted the outstanding performances of the best students across the three training courses.
For Course 388, Woman Constable 26597 A. Major was named Best Student, with Woman Constable 26561 M. Cato as the Runner-up Best Student. Woman Constable 26580 T. Forrester received awards for both Best Classroom Student and Best Drill.
In Course 389, Constable 26732 C. Edwards emerged as Best Student and Best Classroom Student, while Constable 26715 D. Inniss was the Runner-up Best Student. Constable 26725 S. McKenzie was awarded Best Drill.
For Course 390, Constable 26761 E. Blair secured the title of Best Student, followed by Constable 26760 K. Bagot as the Runner-up Best Student. Constable 26758 J. Adams was recognised as the Best Classroom Student, while Constable 26697 A. Bowman received the award for Best Drill.
The valedictorian of the graduating batch was Constable 26732 Edwards.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Errol Watts, Director of the Guyana Police Force Academy Woman Senior Superintendent Sonia Herbert, Woman Superintendent Jewel Sullivan, Senior Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, lecturers from the University of Guyana, senior and junior officers, as well as families and friends of the graduates.
The Guyana Police Force extends its heartfelt congratulations to the newest members of the Force and looks forward to their contributions to serving and protecting the nation with integrity and dedication.
