Wismar fire leaves two homeless

A devastating fire swept through an apartment building at Lot 555, Block 22, Wismar, Linden, on Monday morning, leaving two residents homeless and causing minor damage to other units.
The Guyana Fire Service reported that it responded to the blaze at 7:22 hrs, successfully containing the flames to the building’s top floor. Their swift action prevented the fire from spreading to surrounding properties.
The building, owned by Sandra Adams, was home to Shonette Douglas, 38, and Selena Cilakdeharry, 56. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring, which led to arcing and sparking, igniting nearby combustible materials.
The Guyana Fire Service is urging homeowners to ensure proper electrical installations and conduct regular maintenance checks to prevent similar incidents and safeguard their homes and families.
