Komal Singh elected to head new SAG Executive Committee

The Shipping Association of Guyana (SAG) has elected Komal Singh as Chairman of its new Executive Committee at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), according to a press release.

Other members of the newly elected management committee include Vice Chairman Alan Newark, as well as Management Committee members Glenis Hodge, Gidel Thomside, Jennifer Prashad, Nalini Jamuna, Chandradat Chintamani, Hayley Gilbert, Gobin Persaud, Prittipaul Singh Jr., and Immediate Past Chairman Philip Fernandes.

In his inaugural address, the newly elected Chairman outlined key priorities for the association, emphasizing the need for dredging the Demerara River channel.

Singh, who is also the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, committed to working closely with the government to ensure the channel is deepened to accommodate larger vessels—an initiative aimed at improving shipping efficiency and promoting economic growth, recognizing the crucial role of maritime trade in Guyana’s expansion.

Additionally, the association has begun preparations to host the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) Annual Conference next year. This event is expected to attract over 400 delegates from around the world, positioning Guyana as a hub for regional and international maritime discussions. The conference will provide a platform for key stakeholders to engage in critical discussions on the future of shipping, logistics, and trade in the Caribbean.

The press release further stated that the association remains committed to advocating for advancements in the maritime industry, fostering regional collaboration, and supporting policies that enhance the country’s shipping and logistics sector.
