Andra Stewart, Nya John, Negus Lamaizon, and Matthew Jahlu have been charged in connection with an alleged robbery under arms committed on Chinese nationals Liu Bo, Chaung Yang, Wei Han, Qiao Peng Deng, and Gary Mitchell last Wednesday at Republic Park, East Bank Demerara.

According to a police report, Stewart, 24, an unemployed resident of Lot 84 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown; John, 25, a wash bay operator of Lot 50 Plum Park, Georgetown; Lamaizon, 28, a clothes vendor of Lot 51 Durban Street, Lodge; and Jahlu, 29, a porter of Lot 30 Howes Street, Charlestown, were all arrested on 12 February 2025. They were subsequently charged today with five counts of robbery under arms, contrary to Section 222(C) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

The four accused appeared before Magistrate Best at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court, where all five charges, in relation to Liu Bo, Chaung Yang, Wei Han, Qiao Peng Deng, and Gary Mitchell, were read to them individually. They all pleaded not guilty.

The accused were subsequently granted bail in the sum of $1,920,000 each, with conditions that they report to the CID Headquarters, Vlissengen Road, every Friday—except for Fridays when they are required to attend court—and lodge their passports with the authorities.
