NIS and GCCI representatives in a productive engagement

The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has committed to address several issues raised by the local business community.

The agency’s General Manager, Holly Greaves and team, met with members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Thursday to discuss the challenges being experienced by the business community in accessing NIS services.

Among the areas discussed were concerns over the lack of timely disbursements, delays in the issuance of compliance certificates as well as processing of claims, and issues with communication.

A joint statement by the agencies’ said that NIS also received from the Chamber a report on the challenges raised by its membership.

The NIS team has therefore, “committed to addressing the challenges that were highlighted and hopes to continue working closely with the Chamber in raising awareness with its membership on NIS’ procedures”.

The parties have agreed to meet again by the end of the first quarter of the year to follow-up on the resolution of the challenges discussed.

They have indicated their willingness to foster closer collaboration in a bid to ensure that the interests of the business community are addressed.

The Chamber had publicly expressed disappointment with the NIS’s services after it said it was in receipt of numerous complaints by individuals and Chamber members regarding the inefficiency of the NIS operations.

NIS, in its reply had also expressed disappointment with GCCI’s statement, offering that the two agencies have shared a good professional relationship over the years, and had not received any complaint regarding its poor service.
