The Guyana Government has not received any formal complaints regarding the alleged incorrect display of a map of the New River Triangle at the recent International Business Conference in Suriname.
However, it will enquire into the matter through its representatives who attended the event, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, who spoke with Ignite News today.
The New River Triangle, internationally recognised as Guyanese territory, was allegedly included in a map of Suriname.
Minister Todd said he was personally unaware of the matter but assured that enquiries would be made to determine whether such an error had occurred.
“If this was the case, as is customary, our representatives would have protested,” he stated.
He further emphasised that Guyana’s diplomatic representatives are trained to have a “keen eye” for such issues and would have objected if they had noticed the incorrect depiction of Guyanese territory on the Dutch map.
The International Business Conference, which concluded on Thursday, brings together a distinguished gathering aimed at enhancing business facilitation and promoting foreign capital investments in Suriname and Guyana.
