Swift action by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) Phebe Scott and Lynsia Pyle saved the life of truck driver Atash Singh, 28, who was pinned to his vehicle during an accident on the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on Thursday.

Ambulance #23 and its crew, along with Water Tender #102 from the Melanie Fire Station, responded to the accident call at approximately 11:25 hrs. Upon arrival, EMT Scott immediately climbed onto the truck and mobilised a rescue operation while providing medical care to the driver. He was later removed and transported in a conscious state to the Georgetown Public Hospital by EMTs.

Singh lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a car and a house, causing severe damage to both properties. He sustained a severe avulsion injury to the right side of his face and a laceration to his right arm. Meanwhile, the driver of the car, 31-year-old Jameela Kelvin, suffered abrasions to her body and pain in her shoulder.

The accident also caused significant damage to a two-storey concrete building owned by Bibi Navia Shaffie at Lot 2B, Area H, Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara. No lives were lost.

The Guyana Fire Service is encouraging all drivers to adhere to the five Cs of driving: care, caution, consideration, common sense, and courtesy to ensure safety on the roadways.
