Three teachers attached to a secondary school on the Essequibo Coast have been placed on administrative leave pending investigations into allegations involving a female student, the Region Two Department of Education has confirmed.

The allegations involve inappropriate conduct and other serious claims concerning the student.

The matter has sparked concern among parents, students and teachers in the community over the safety and welfare of children within the education system.

The Department of Education said the decision to remove the teachers from active duty while investigations continue reflects the seriousness with which the allegations are being treated.
