Residents of Anna Regina now have access to a modern outdoor gym aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles, following its commissioning on Thursday.
The facility, a partnership among CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited, the Regional Democratic Council and the Anna Regina Town Council, is expected to encourage physical activity and social interaction across all age groups.
Regional Chairman Devin Mohan described the project as a milestone for Region Two, noting that it provides a safe and accessible space for residents to improve their well-being. He said systems will be put in place to maintain the facility and urged residents to make full use of it.
Speaking on behalf of CNOOC President Lian Jihong, Vice President Keith Henderson said the initiative reflects growing cooperation between Guyana and China. He added that the project supports a national beautification drive led by First Lady Arya Ali to enhance public spaces.
Henderson noted that similar outdoor gyms have been established at the National Park in Georgetown, as well as in Bartica, Corriverton and Grove-Diamond, with Anna Regina now added to the list.
Deputy Mayor Lorna Budhram said the facility will help foster community engagement while promoting healthier living.
The gym is now open to the public and is expected to see regular use throughout the day. The ribbon-cutting and plaque unveiling were conducted by Mohan and representatives of CNOOC.
