Businesses in Linden are being encouraged to explore global opportunities through trade partnerships, investment programmes and industry conferences, as part of efforts to strengthen links between Guyanese enterprises and the United States (US) market.

The call came during an information session hosted by the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development and the US Embassy’s Department of Commerce.

During the session, business owners were urged to position themselves to benefit from greater international engagement.

Senior Commercial Officer at the US Department of Commerce, Bruce Ellsworth, explained that the embassy team works to facilitate business connections between American companies and partners in Guyana.

“The US Department of Commerce team and embassies around the world, our first job is to help US companies that want to export to Guyana. It’s not a one-sided opportunity because any US company that wants to export here can be a partner here,” he asserted.

Ellsworth said the embassy regularly assists US firms seeking information about the Guyanese market and can help connect them with local businesses. He encouraged Linden businesses to take advantage of international platforms that can expose them to new ideas and potential partners.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained,” Ellsworth told participants.

He added that conferences allow companies to meet industry players and explore business prospects.

Commercial Specialist at the US Embassy, Amanda Edmondson, also highlighted opportunities for local businesses to learn about emerging sectors, particularly those linked to the rapidly expanding oil and gas industry.

“The first step is getting knowledge and getting the information,” she said.

She noted that events such as the Offshore Technology Conference allow companies to assess how their services could fit into the sector.

“If you don’t go, then you don’t know,” she said.

The initiative aims to ensure businesses beyond Georgetown, including those in Linden and Region Ten, have access to opportunities for international growth and collaboration.
