President’s College secures national championship title for second straight year

In a stunning display of athletic prowess, President’s College repeated their success as champions of the National Schools’ Championships, which concluded on Friday at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora.
With a formidable score of 275 points, President’s College took the lead, surpassing McKenzie High School, which finished with 230 points. Christianburg Wismar Secondary placed third with 214 points, while Mahaicony Secondary and Christ Church Secondary followed with 108 and 79 points, respectively.
Highlighting the track events, Angel Jeffery of Christianburg Wismar shone brightly, earning three gold medals, including the girls’ under-17 200 metres, which she completed in 25.11 seconds. Taking silver was Quinyla Burnett of Mahaicony with a time of 25.82 seconds, while Shanai Thompson secured bronze in 26.53 seconds.
In the male under-20 200 metres, Charles Skylar from Vreed-En-Hoop Secondary sprinted to victory in 21.26 seconds. Dequan Farrell from McKenzie High followed closely in 21.48 seconds, while Onesi Dunn, who won the 100 metres, finished third in 21.94 seconds.
In the relays, the Government Technical Institute clinched first place in the male under-20 4×100 metres, finishing in 44.37 seconds, narrowly edging McKenzie High at 44.40 seconds. Mahaicony Secondary took third place with a time of 45.25 seconds.
On the girls’ side, Christianburg Wismar triumphed in the female 4×100 metres, finishing in 55.48 seconds. President’s College followed in second at 56.91 seconds, while J.C. Chandersingh Secondary took third with a time of 58.84 seconds.
In the field events, Rayvon Allicock from Linden Technical Institute excelled in the male under-20 javelin, recording a throw of 51.33 metres. Ravon King from North West Secondary claimed second place with 47.84 metres, while Jermin Hinds of Vryman Ervin Secondary earned bronze with 46.73 metres.
Esther Blair of President’s College dominated the female under-20 triple jump, achieving a leap of 10.70 metres. She surpassed Tiffann David of McKenzie High, who jumped 9.80 metres, and Kianna Bennett from Manchester Secondary, who took third with 9.40 metres.
The event concluded with a formal ceremony recognising President’s College as two-time champions of the revamped National Schools’ Championships.
