Guyana has declared COP 30 a success, highlighting the conference’s strong global push to protect the world’s forests and intensify efforts to reverse climate change. The event brought together leaders and officials from across the globe in Belém, the Amazon gateway city that underscored the urgency of safeguarding forest ecosystems.

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali represented Guyana during the Global Leaders Segment, while Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, attended the Ministerial Segment. Minister Bharrat also participated in Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP) activities, including an all-members meeting co-chaired with UK Minister of Climate, Hon. Katie White.

The Guyanese delegation also included Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Hon. Vanessa Benn; Senior Director of Climate Change in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Pradeepa Bholanath; and other senior government officials.

Officials extended appreciation to the technical teams whose work ensured that Guyana’s contributions were prominently reflected at COP 30. They also thanked Brazil’s President, H.E. Lula Da Silva, “for ensuring that this year’s COP 30 was such a transformational success.”

Held in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, COP 30 focused sharply on forest preservation, climate resilience and the role of forest-rich nations—areas in which Guyana continues to strengthen its global leadership.
